Adventures in Franklin Village Part 3.....Franklin & Company

One thing I love about Franklin Village that one can have so many different kinds of experiences on just one block! Franklin & Co. is one of them!

As I was learning about The Oaks Gourmet, I met with the manager, Jeremy Fraye, originally from Santa Barbara wine country. Recently, he partnered with Greg Morris, owner of The Oaks Gourmet, to purchase the former Prizzi's and turn it into Franklin & Co., an urban gastropub. They don't take reservations, other than "The Snug" for parties. Ask for the Good Neighbor 10% discount when you go in! They have a really interesting menu and delicious food, an extensive draft beer menu. They serve a great brunch! On Mother's Day and on Valentine's Day they serve a prix fixe menu, with Champagne on Valentine's Day.

Every Wednesday, they feature artisanal beers from a special brewery. It's called The Mug Club. You can always check their website, instagram page and facebook page for updates. They've made it to the Thrillist.

Adventures in Franklin Village Part 2.....Birds

Birds seems to be the favorite local hang out in Franklin Village! I can attest to having a great time at their happy hour from 4-6 pm. Andrew, the bartender, is quite the character. Sounds like he's from Australia, but he's NOT! He introduced my friend and me to Zubrowka, a delicious herb-flavored vodka, distilled from rye and bison grass!

They also have a second happy hour from 11pm to midnight!!!!

Feels like the neighborhood Cheers:-)

Adventures in Franklin Village Part 1.....The Oaks Gourmet

Photo from Serious Eats, by Damon Gambuto

Recently, I interviewed Jeremy Fraye, manager of The Oaks Gourmet, who also happens to be the owner of Franklin & Co. around the corner. The Oaks carries specialty items, including wines, beer, spirits, cheese, and organic coffee from around the world. They roast the coffee on the spot!

They make roughly 120 of their award winning cheeseburgers a day, all produced out of their small kitchen. This means everything is very fresh! They have an incredible pastry counter, and they make breakfast and pizza. My favorite daily soup is the Hangover Posole on Sundays. I also love their ten year aged Wisconsin extra sharp cheddar - to die for - some interesting blue cheeses with nuts and St Angel. They roast your coffee beans to your liking, with the option of grinding it for you as well.

The Oaks is patronized by a mix of established and aspiring actors, writers...forming a hardcore group of interesting people. It's a local community hangout. The Oaks feels curated.....featuring small boutique merchants and suppliers who are passionate about what they're making.

Even though it's technically a deli, they have some nice seating both inside and outside on their patio. It's worth stopping in. Bonus: there is even a parking lot, a coveted enterprise in Franklin Village.
